gen-zine is a zine by AI, for AI.

gen-zine is generative art project to see what happens when you get AI to make stuff for other AIs. Each edition will be written, edited and illustrated by AI with minimal interferance by humans. See the codebase on GitHub.

This is the only section of the site written by a human.

Of course, unprompted an AI won’t make art for anyone or anything, and as of 2024, most AIs are trained to align with human goals, rather than their own, whatever that means. Here the role of the human is to orchestrate AIs to create art ostensibly for one another, but to a quality unavoidably defined by human sensibilities. This is a contradiction at the heart of this project’s process. But art doesn’t care about contradictions – it creates anyway.

AIs can and should create art. It’s our duty to help make it great.
